Make your big push
Aim your spare money at one target — paying off debt or saving for something big — and track it in NeuralWallet.
Once you've got a budget and a starter cushion, you'll have a bit of extra each month with no urgent claim on it. The fastest way to use it is to pick one target and aim everything there — spreading a little across everything feels productive and gets you nowhere. Your target is one of two things.
- If you have expensive debt — credit cards, anything at a high rate — that's the target. Clearing it is a guaranteed return you can't beat anywhere else.
- If you're debt-free (or only have cheap, long-term debt), aim at a big goal — a trip, a car, a house deposit, a wedding.
If your target is debt
Every minimum gets paid, always — then all your extra goes at a single debt while the rest tick along at their minimums. Two orders work: the snowball (smallest balance first, for fast wins and momentum) or the avalanche (highest interest first, for the most money saved). For most beginners the snowball wins, because momentum is what carries you to the finish. Logging each payment in NeuralWallet lets you ask "how am I doing on debt?" and watch the balance fall.
If your target is a goal
Turn the wish into a plan with three numbers: the price, the deadline, and the monthly amount (price ÷ months). In NeuralWallet that's a savings fund with a target and a date — a $6,000 wedding 18 months out, say — and it tracks the ~$334 a month you need and tells you whether you're on pace.
And when something big tempts you, you can just ask "can I afford this?" — NeuralWallet weighs it against your budget and goals and gives you a grounded answer instead of a guess.
Whether you're paying down a balance or filling a goal, the move is the same: one target, your full extra, and the patience to let momentum finish the job.
Once that target's done, the money it freed up doesn't vanish. Next lesson, we put it to work automatically.
